Craft Selling Tips - Want to Sell More? Talk to Your Customers By Bob Beacham
Tuesday, December 30, 2008

If you sell crafts online, how do you talk to your customers? I am not saying their phone is not really practical for most people, but what to keep in touch electronically?

Or are you one of the artisans who just do not do it? Do you know how much that cost you?

Put it another way. Who is easier to sell to someone who purchased one of your crafts or someone who has never heard of you?

OK, if it is an obvious answer, but you can be a customer than let wander off and never hear again. Would you rather not have them as someone who buys from you again and again for years?

The only difference is to remain in contact. There are two ways to do so.

Prime could be through your website. Trouble is, regularly update your Web site with little excerpts of what you do in your craft business can be a little nuisance.

Much easier and much more user-friendly device is a blog. Easy to install, easy to update, and people love them because they are generally fresh and interesting.

Secondly, people of the e-mails and contact them directly. Now before you go you get accused of spamming and everyone will be annoyed with you, there is good and a bad way to do it.

The important thing you have to do is get permission from your email client. The best way is to give them something in return.

For example, say you can sell candles. You could put together a small digital booklet on a dressing room for dinner using candles. It offers not only to your customers, but all the boats of your site visitors in exchange for their e-mail. You want their address so you can send the most useful advice decorating inside.

Otherwise, you can provide special offers to people who become "members" or sign for your newsletter.

I'm sure you can easily think of a number of small but useful incentives in exchange for this important e-mail. Once you have, you have permission from your client (or potential client) to send them more information and, of course, regular "offers". You do not have the bomb, you simply offer them something of value every two weeks, maybe once a month.

It is extremely effective marketing because you've identified the people who have already shown an interest in your crafts. They are much more likely to buy, especially if you put a little effort and make them feel special. Treat them as if everyone does not get the offer they received.

The beauty of the idea is that the whole system can be automated. Some companies, for a small monthly fee, will handle all the details for you. All you have to do is to compose an e-mail and they will send to everyone on your list. As a first step that could be a bit over time but will be hundreds, even thousands.

Selling crafts online success is a combination of things. The effectiveness of your marketing is one of them.
